A mustard seed is about one or two millimeters in size, yet it can spread tall and wide very quickly, growing to be unusually large.
Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said: "On the Day of Resurrection, I will intercede and say, 'O my Lord! Admit into Paradise (even) those who have faith equal to a mustard seed in their hearts.”
[Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 9, Hadith 600]
Where there is a tiny bit of faith, it can grow to immense proportions, spreading its influence far and wide and benefiting those with who it comes into contact.
Interestingly, Jesus, peace be upon him, uses the same reference in the Bible. Jesus states, “If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” [Matthew 17:20]
Both of these great Prophets express one centric theme: directing our attention, not to the quantity, but to the object and strength of our faith. Our faith is only as strong as the object in which it is placed. If our faith, even if it is the size of a mustard seed, is placed in God, The Beneficent, great things can happen.
